The Q&A Archives: Marigold As A Herb?

Question: I had heard of a marigold ageate(spelling?) that tolerated arid-like conditions. Do you have this type of plant for sale?

Answer: Marigolds in general are called Tagetes in Latin nomenclature. They do tolerate hot sunny conditions and do not require a particularly wet soil, but they still need some water -- at least average soil moisture to bloom well -- as do most summer blooming annuals. Burpee offers a broad selection of marigolds. You might call them at 800-888-1447 to request a catalog or order or check the web site at for additional information.
