Hi,

I had some nice garden mums from last fall that I wanted to
grow this spring. I waited until all the flowers had left
last fall then stored them in my cold, dry garage over the winter. I have just planted them out in my garden in a
nice sunny spot.

Should I expect to have re-growth occur ? Right now all
I have is the branches and dried tops from last year, I
don't see any new shoots. I have cut the tops off one of
the plants to see if it will help, any advice?

Thanks,
Stephen

Unfortunately, they may have dried out completely and died over the winter. However, if they are still alive, you should soon see new shoots appearing from the original crown. In the meantime, go ahead and trim away the old growth. Up until mid July, the shoots should be pinched back each time they grow a few inches so that the plant becomes bushy and full. This will make more blooms this fall. In July, stop pinching so the plants can go ahead and set buds.
