We planted a lilac tree in front of our porch three years ago. Last year it was full of lilac blooms. This year we only have one bloom. What could have caused it to not bloom? |
The most common reasons for a lilac not to bloom are lack of sunshine and improper pruning. Lilacs need full sun to bloom their best, and since they bloom on last year's growth, should only be pruned immediately after they bloom in the spring. Pruning in summer or fall or early spring will remove the flowering wood. |
