The Q&A Archives: Ornamental Cabbage

Question: Iam looking for an ornamental cabbage that is used for decorating and dont know if it can be used in the summer or just in the fall can you please tell me the botanicl name and when it can be used?

Answer: Ornamental cabbages and kales (Brassica oleracea) do not tolerate summer heat very well so they are normally grown for planting out in the fall. It takes about two and a half to three months to produce a large enough plant to look "like something" though, so they are started during the summer in the coolest location available.
