You mention in the garlic section that the flower bud like bulbs that hard-necked garlic plants produce are edible. How big should I let them get before I pinch them off, and how do I use them in the kitchen? Are they interchangable with standard garlic cloves?

The bulbils that form on the scapes can be eaten the same way one would use the regular cloves. You can pinch them off at any time while they are maturing, but pinching them off early allows the plant to send more if its energy to the primary below ground cloves.
