The bark came off the trunk of my crape myrtle tree. At this point all the leaves look healthy. Why did this happen and will the tree survive? |
Bob, That is most likely the natural exfoliating of the outer bark. It is normal for a crape myrtle and sometimes creates a bit of a color pattern (tan, brown and/or reddish brown) on the smooth bark underneath. This is one of the nice ornamental features of this great southern plant. Thanks for the question. Please feel free to stop in again with another question any time we can help! |
