| My tomato plants that I have started indoors from seeds are tall and skinny. This is my first garden, and I'm wondering if they will suvive. I have just planted them out doors. They are cherry, july 4th and beefsteak. Their stems are thinner then twine. Should I give up on them and buy new from a nursery or will they survive? please help!! |
| Home started tomatoes usually need to be grown under lights in order to be kept bright enough to stay stocky and healthy. They also need to be hardened off or acclimmated to the outdoors in a gradual way to avoid shocking them when they are transplanted into the garden. Based on your description I am not really able to make a guess as to the prognosis of your tomatoes, however if they are simply young or small, that would not necessarily be a problem as long as they are basically healthy. You might keep an eye on them and see if they seem to settle in well, then, if not, replace them if needed. Gardening is always a learning experience, so be proud you managed to grow them as far as you have! |
