Wisteria does best in a sunny location with a deep, rich, moist but well drained soil. It requires a strong support such as a heavy pipe or sturdy post until it is thick enough to stand on its own. It should be pruned back hard to three or four buds to keep it under control, thick and ready to bloom. For the best results, buy a plant that has already bloomed because they can be very slow to do so, occasionally waiting as long as 20 years.
