The Q&A Archives: Water Requirements for Radish Seedlings

Question: I am doing a project for my eighth grade science class. I am testing the effect of water and Miracle-Gro fertilizer on Burpee's Cherry Belle' radishes grown in 2 1/4 inch peat pots, grown in a mini-greenhouse outside. I plan to give each of the plants in group 1, 1 ounce of water per day, group 2, 1/2 ounces per day, and 1/4 ounces per day for group three. Half within each group will get fertilizer, and the other half won't. I would appreciate if you would tell me if you think the amounts ofwater make sense for the test. Jonathan O'Brien Vienna, VA

Answer: Great Project! I would think, though, that the radishes will need more than 1 ounce of water a day, especially when the plants get larger. I'd suggest using the amounts of 1/3 to 1/4 cup per day instead and then have some with and some without fertilizer. Let us know what happens!!
