The Q&A Archives: Plants that Attract Birds, Butterflies

Question: I'm looking for a list of flowers and shrubs that attract butterflies, moths and hummingbirds. I was wondering if you have a list of flowers that attract hummers? Another for moths (night-time fliers)? And another list for hummingbirds? Do you have a reference? (book/magazine, association, or expert)? Thank you. Daniel Edelstein Germantown, MD

Answer: Ther are many flowers that attract hummingbirds. A short list is honeysuckle, salvia, trumpet vine, scarlet runner beans, nicotiana and bee balm. Any night blooming plants such as moon flowers would be attractive to night flying moths.
