My Bearded Irises have come up nicely and are in bloom, but some of the blooms seem almost mushy. They do not open.
Any idea's?

Based on your description it sounds like the disease called blossom blight (Botrytis cinerea) which may appear sometimes in wet springs. The best thing to do is remove the blossoms and destroy them to try to reduce the chance of reinfection.
