The Q&A Archives: Hail Damage on Hosta

Question: We had a really hard hail storm last week and as a result, my Hostas are very shredded. Should I cut them back and hope they will leaf again? They really look terrible.

Answer: Hail and hosta are a bad mix for sure! Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do except hope the new growth covers up or at least helps to hide the mess. You can trim away the worst of the leaves but removing them all makes an even more stressful situation for the plants.
