How can I prevent birdseed sprouting when it falls from my feeders into my flower beds? I feed many kinds of birds and do not want to do anything to jeopardize their health. Any help will be appreciated, by both me and the birds.

Although you might want to consider using a pre-emergent such as corn gluten, another approach would be to cover the ground with a heavy layer of mulch that is regularly disturbed and refreshed, perhaps over top of several layers of newspaper. This would make a less inviting area for the seeds to germinate and would make it very easy to pull any that did mange to sprout.
