I wanted to buy some early spring/summer planting bulbs now (in May), but not plant them until next spring. Is this really bad for the bulbs? Is there a good way to store them? Which bulbs would be good for this kind of storage. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, bulbs are living things and can't survive extended periods of time out of the ground. It would be difficult to keep bulbs that long even under commercial storage conditions, if at all. In my experience you would be wasting your money to try it.
