| I have two plantings of the creeping form of Hypericum (St. Jonhswort). One patch is in semi-shade the other in full sun. They are both several years old and continue to be healthy and spreading well but neither patch blooms. Any suggestions? |
| I am assuming you are asking about Hypericum calycinum. This plant blooms on new growth of the season in June and July. You might try shearing it off rather short in early spring to remove any winterkill and to stimulate the vigorous new blooming tips. This plant prefers a moist soil but will tolerate a drier one and even a poor soil. You might try watering if the weather is very dry and you might try giving it some compost and/or a complete granular fertilizer such as 10-10-10 in early spring. These steps should help the plant develop sufficient energy to bloom. |
