I would like to know if you can recommend an ornamental grass that is red, yellow, orange or purple and does not grow more than 2' and can stand full sun and wind(not extreme) or part sun and northern exposure? I planted purple fountain grass last year, in both areas, and it did beautifully and was exactly what I was looking for. We cut it back like we were told and it did not grow back this year. We found out that it is not a hardy grass for our zone, which I believe is 6. I need some kind of grass or dwarf plant like(gold thread cypress) for example that is hardy and vibrant in color. I don't like flowers and am looking for perennials. I can adjust the soil for the plant. Help? |
You might try one of the dwarf red barberry shrubs for a hardy, low maintenance plant in red all season. This shrub prefers full sun and colors best in a full sun location. You could also try the red-bladed, shorter ornamental grass called Imperata cylindrica 'Red Baron' as well as the I. c. 'rubra'. These will grow in partial shade, but not heavy shade, and would prefer more sun in cooler regions. This grass is listed as hardy to zone 6. |
