My husband read about some property in California that survived the wild fires due to a specific shrub that was credited with the survival of the house. Unfortunately, he does not remember the name of the plant. Can you help?

There are numerous species of plants recommended for their fire retardant qualities, and more importantly a number of landscaping recommendations that reduce the threat of wildfire damage to a home. The following web sites offer a lot of valuable information. Keep in mind however that not all plants recommended will necessarily be adapted to your area. Your county extension office should be able to offer information specific to your region.
