The Q&A Archives: Cracks In Cherry Tomatoes

Question: What causes my cherry tomatoes to crack?

Answer: Some varieties are simply more prone to cracking than others, but the most common reason for cracking is excess moisture following a dry period. This causes the inside of the tomato to swell beyond the capacity of the skin to hold it. Try to keep the soil evenly moist (but not soggy). Mulching can be of help with this.
