I am wondering how much water is needed to keep Sunflowers alive and growing? We live in the desert out in Henderson, Nevada and keeping plants watered right is hard to judge!

Sunflowers require quite a bit of water. It's impossible to give an "exact amount" of water to apply because it depends on your specific soil and weather conditions, including temperatures, sun exposure and wind. Keep the soil consistently moist (but not wet) until the plants are established. Then you can let the soil dry a bit, but not too much. You might want to get some native sunflower varieties from Native Seeds/SEARCH. They can withstand Southwestern conditions and take less water. Their website is http://www.azstarnet.com/~nss/. Have fun with your sunflowers!
