The Q&A Archives: Butterfly Bush Seeds

Question: In Pgh, PA, is it OK to plant butterfly seeds directly into the soil now, (6/9/00)?

Answer: These seeds germinate best in a somewhat warm soil temperature, approximately 70 degrees. You might want to test your soil temperature with a soil thermometer, or, plant the seeds in a small pan where you can control their growing conditions a bit better and then transplant the seedlings to the garden.
