There are many plants to try in a full sun location that have foliage other than green. You might look at the red barberry shrub which is available in a dwarf as well as a large size, or at the golden barberry which is rather small. Those are both deciduous meaning they drop their leaves in the fall. Some of the evergreens with blue or golden or striped foliage might also interest you. You might like the multi-colored and variegated Euonymous fortunei group, or perhaps you might look into some of the more colorful junipers and chamaecyparis among the needled evergreens. These are all hardy plants that should live for many years.
