The Q&A Archives: Rhododendron Care after Flowering

Question: How do I care for my rhododendron after flowering?

Answer: When the petals fall, allow the flower trusses to dry out a little, then carefully snap them off the branches. Leaf and flower buds develop directly beneath the trusses and it's important not to damage the buds as you remove the spent flowers, so use both hands (one to hold the branch and one to quickly snap the trusses off). Rhododendrons can be fed after bloom, using a fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants.
