The Q&A Archives: Low-light, Low-maintenance Houseplants

Question: I work in an office with no windows and bad ventilation. Please recommend indoor plants that don't need a lot of light and that produce maximum amounts of oxygen.

Answer: Aside from plastic plants (they don't produce oxygen anyway), try these cast-iron beauties: Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen), Anthurium, Aspidistra (Cast-iron plant), Dracana, Fatshedera, Monstera (Split-leaf philodendron), Scindapsus (Pothos), and Spathiphyllum.
