Earwigs are nocturnal and can be controlled by trapping them in dampened rolls of newspaper that are discarded each morning. They can also be trapped in saucers of vegetable oil sunken into the ground. In order to make specific suggestions with regard to pest control it is important to identify both the pest and the plant first, then determine the safest control methods, if in fact the insect needs to be controlled. For more suggestions you might want to check the extensive (and searchable) Q&A section of the web site.
