The Q&A Archives: Cannas- 1 Out Of 14

Question: I received my shipment of 16 Giant Canna Mix. I prepared the soil, planted in full sun, per instructions. I planted
fourteen of them and so far only one has come up. Date planted: 5/25/00. They were all planted 2 to 3" deep.
Should I be concerned about the others not coming up yet? Spacing about 18 to 24" apart. Please advise.

Answer: In a mix, often one or two are more precocious varieties. Cannas can take a few weeks to get started, and grow faster the warmer the soil is. They also like plenty of water and a very rich soil. If you are worried, you could gently dig down with your fingers and see if the growth tips are swelling and beginning to sprout.
