I just started a raspberry patch and I noticed that the foliage seems to die off as I pick the fruit and begin to renew again. Is this normal?

Sometimes careless picking -- or a crowded picker -- will damage a bit of foliage but you would not expect to see a measurable amount of foliage die back. You might be seeing the effects of a fungal infection that is being transferred by the picking process. Be careful to stay out of the planting whenever the foliage is damp from rain or dew. You might also check with your county extension (837-1402) for a more precise look at what is happening.
