The term "feed once a season" is usually directed at perennials, trees and shrubs, and means to feed once during the growing season, generally in the spring after new growth begins. Springtime is when plants are rapidly growing and they use up their energy reserves quickly. Feeding in the spring provides the necessary nutrients to keep the plants growing steadily throughout the spring and summer months.
