| I have a passiflora that was planted in my yard about 3 months ago. It has grown significantly during that time and has many blooms, but every bloom dies before it opens. What am I doing wrong? |
| Passiflora is usually free-blooming. The plants will grow in full sun to part shade in deep, moist, well-draining soils with a pH level of 6.0 - 8.0. Soil that is too rich will produce lots of foliage but few blooms. They seem to flower more abundantly when humidity is high. Try misting your plant every few days to increase humidity around it. Passiflora blooms on new wood. To keep the plant open and prevent buildup of dead inner wood, prune annually, cutting excess branches back to a main branch, and cutting some of the main branches all the way down to ground level. Early spring is an excellent time to prune, but you can pinch and prune all during the season to keep the plant under control. |
