The Q&A Archives: Flowering Plants for the Shade or Florescent Light

Question: I love plants that flower, but my problem is that I live in an apartment which has a shady balcony. The sunlight barely shines through all the tree foliage. What plants could survive outside with little sunlight? My apartment barely gets sunlight dueto the same problem and what plant can I grow inside that will survive? Rita Rama Atlanta, GA

Answer: There's hope for your shady situation -- impatiens bloom with little sunlight, and they come in a wide array of colors. They adapt well to pots and bloom all season long. Inside, most any flowering plant can be coaxed to bloom under a fluorescent light.
