Two of my potted plants (in a grassy area) did well for a while until they got taken over by slugs. I tried the sluggo and also set beer traps. I am hoping this solves the problem or at least keeps it under control. Unfortunately, the annuals in my pots are dead due to slug damage. Is it too late to replace the annuals (Zone 6)? Can you suggest any fairly slug-resistant annuals that can take sun? Your suggestions (and any further control methods) would be much appreciated. ---------------- |
| If you can find annuals for sale, you can still plant them in your containers or in the ground. You could also plant some of the warm season annuals from seed, such as cosmos, cleome, and sunflower although these would need a fairly large container to do well. Slugs can be an ongoing problem, so you will need to keep working at controlling them. Methods to try include the beer baited traps, the commercial baits, sprinkling diatomaceous earth (horticulture grade powder) on the soil surface around the plants, and picking them by hand in the late evening or at night (drop them into soapy or salty water). Finally, avoid watering in the evening as the moisture attracts them. |
