I have a 5 year old red bud tree that I am going to need to transplant. What would be the best way to do this where it will live? |
Transplanting a five year old tree of any kind may or may not be successful but unfortunately redbuds in particular are extremely difficult to transplant. You would need to prepare it ahead of time by root pruning, beginning a year or so ahead of time. The move itself would best be done in the fall so it could have time to reroot during cool weather. If it has much size, you would also need a tree spade to dig it up! All in all, in my experience you would have much better chance of a healthy tree if you simply planted a new one. |
