I was recently given three two-inch tall butterfly bushes. Can I plant them outside now, or should I keep them in pots until next year?

If you have a spot in say the vegetable or flower garden where they can be protected from accidental injury (being stepped on or mowed off) and can water them regularly and keep an eye on them, go ahead and plant them out. You could however also keep them in pots, moving them up as they grow, for the summer and plant them out in September when they are a little larger. Try to give them some extra protection from wind their first winter.
