What end of the tomatoe is the top?Is it the stem end or the end with the little black thing? this question comes up every time we have a big family meal. Thanks!

I would call the stem end the top. The reason for this is there is a disease called "blossom end rot" and it occurs at the black spot end. How's that for dinner table logic!
