| My Concorde grapes, over the past two years, have been turning brown and rotting. The leaves are fine but once the fruit sets to a dime size they begin to turn brown and rot. Is there a fungus causing this? |
| Grapes are subject to many fungal infections, and in most cases home gardeners ultimately find it necessary to follow a regular spray routine in order to produce a crop of healthy grapes. You might want to check with your county extension (358-6101) as to the suggested sprays and their correct timing so that they will be most effective. In the meantime, clean up and remove any infected grapes and any diseased foliage as soon as you see them, also do a very thorough clean up around the plant each fall.Make sure to clean up, remove and destroy all prunings. Finally, prune your vine as needed each spring and do whatever else you can to increase air circulation around the plant. These steps should help reduce the chances of reinfection from year to year. |
