I have a sugar maple near the house which has several small holes on its trunk. Any ideas what could be causing this? |
There are many possible reasons for holes in a tree, ranging from a borer insect to decay at the site of a fallen branch to interior deterioration. In general, holes are not a positive sign and may be an indication of a more serious problem. They should be examined by a professionally trained and certified arborist, or possibly discussed with your county extension (696-3500). I do hope it is nothing serious. |
