| Rabbits are eating my beans down to the ground. They are so tempting that the varmints force themselves through a two-inch opening in the fence that is 2 1/2 feet off the ground. So far I've tried to discourage them with blood meal, a cat cut-out and a rubber hose snake look alike. I've also planted marigolds nearby. Any suggestions? |
| Rabbits are truly persistent pests. Although some gardeners report success with using repellents, either commercially formulated or home made with a a garlic and/or red pepper base, or with using predator urines, or having a pet dog or cat "on patrol", in my experience the only long term reliable protection is a fence -- in good repair. In some cases adding an electrically charged strand or two can also be helpful, but usually setting the fencing into the ground horizontally so it reaches outward at the base and adding a bit of an outward slant to the top will keep critters out. |
