We have a mugho pine that is about 4.5' high and about 7' wide. Can this be pruned this to reduce the width of the plant? If yes, how and when? |
Pines will not regrow from old wood, so any cuts would stay bare and ugly. Pruning would best consist of limiting further growth. Pines put out new growth only once a year in the spring. To prune, each spring break off the new emerging growth "candles" that appear at the tip of each branch. This will also cause the growth to become denser and thicker. |
