The Q&A Archives: Acid Plants

Question: Are butterfly bushes acid plants? What do I feed them?

Answer: Butterfly bushes do well in average soil across a range of pH. They will do well with average to rich soil so the amount to fertilize would depend on the native soil. You might give them two applications of a granular complete fertilizer such as 10-10-10 according to the label instructions in early and late spring as well as a topdressing of compost in spring and late fall.
