The Q&A Archives: When to Plant Kale

Question: What time should I plant kale next summer so I can use it next fall and winter? Carl Ehlert Vandalia, IL

Answer: It's best to start seeds right in the garden about six weeks before your first frost in fall. Make sure you enrich the soil with a bit of compost before planting so they'll get off to a good start, and water them as needed to get them going. Mulch the soil after they've come up to keep the soil cool.
