There are a number of plants commonly called mosquito plant but most of them are a type of, or are related to, the scented geraniums. These are not winter hardy and must be brought inside for the winter or replaced each year. The repellent is contained in the oil in the leaves. They must be bruised in order to smell and serve their purpose. In my experience they are not terribly effective and are enjoyable as a curiosity plant. They can be propagated most easily by rooting tip cuttings during the summer.
