I love Baptisia and was recently given a few seed pods. The pods themselves have now turned black. Can you please give me instructions on how to harvest the seeds and plant them so I'll have healthy plants for spring planting? Thank you in advance for any help.

You can sow the seeds outdoors in late fall or very early spring for spring germination. Or you can sow them indoors in late winter or early spring. First, nick or file the hard seed coat, then plant in moist medium and keep at a temperature of 70-75F. Germination takes 5-10 days. Be sure to harden them off before you transplant them to the garden.
