I have several Crimson Pygmy Barberry shrubs planted in the front of my house. I prunned them early this spring before they started to come back to life. They were really nice at first but they have grown so much that they really need prunning before next spring. Can I prune them in the summer? Is is also pretty hot here right now but I do water them every day. Thank you.

Barberries may be pruned through the summer and through to about September as needed to maintain their shape. Pruning later than that will encourage soft new growth that may be damaged during the colder months.
