The Q&A Archives: Ideal Sites for Rhododendrons

Question: I want to plant Rhododendron on the north side of my house. This area gets a very small amount of sun. My question is this a good place to plant them and how do I care for them? Thank you. Naomi Levy Indianapolis, IN

Answer: Yes, the northside of your house that gets only a few hours of sun a day is a great site for rhododendrons. Dig a good sized hole (twice as wide as the root ball), amend the soil with sulfur and water it in well. Once growing, fertilize with Miracid tokeep the soil pH low and acidic. Mulch the plant with pine needles and it should grow fine.
