The Q&A Archives: Pumpkin Roots

Question: We had to move our pumpkin vines to mow under neath. I noticed all the little roots that had sprung from along the vine and 'thorned' the vine into the ground. Will the vine be able to 'reattach' itself, or have we done harm by moving the vines?

Answer: Those roots are one way the plant can gain extra moisture and nutrients. It is better not to uproot it (those roots can grow deeper if left undisturbed) if you can help it. Maybe you can direct the vine in a safer direction. They do get huge!
