I've heard you can pinch off pumpkin vines so they don't take over the entire garden (or in my case yard). But, where do I pinch them off, how long a vine do I want, and this won't kill the plant?

After the vine has set one or two fruits you can pinch out the growing tip (at the end of the vine). This will stop additional vine growth and redirect the plant's energy into ripening the fruit. There's no set measure or set length of vine, but you want to wait until each vine has set fruit before you pinch out the tip - otherwise it won't flower and produce fruit. Hope you have a great harvest!
