| I have had several Stella de Oro plants for about 5 yrs. This yr. they don't look healthy - Many leaves turned brown after blooming and all indication is that they are through blooming for this season. This hasn't been the case in past yrs. Thanks for any help you can give me. |
| The smaller reblooming daylilies like Stella need to be divided about every other year to keep them vigorous. (you can do this almost any time in the growing season as long as you keep them well watered while they reestablish.) This process also allows you to enrich and rework the soil in which they are planted. They are relatively heavy feeders and need a rich soil with ample water to perform their best. Some years, especially with excess rain or excess humidity, there are some foliar problems on daylilies. Simply remove the browned leaves as they occur and do a thorough clean up in the fall. Avoid working on the plants when they are wet and avoid overhead watering, especially at night. Finally, remove the spent bloom stems regularly so the plant doea not spend any energy on producing seed. |
