The Q&A Archives: Mountain Fire Pieris Tips

Question: I have purchased a Mountain Fire Pieris and I need to know if this is an acid-loving plant. Also it is a member of the evergreen family. I need to know how to feed this plant. Thanks. Cathy Peterson Goshen, IN

Answer: Pieris is a broad-leaved, evergreen shrub commonly used as a foundation planting. It prefers a moist, well-drained, acidic soil rich in humus, and a location with light shade. At planting time, add some peat moss and bonemeal to the soil. Since the plant is relatively slow-growing, an annual mulch of compost should provide plenty of nutrients.
