I would like to know if the Clematis named Paniculata flowers on old wood or new growth. If on old wood when would I cut it back?

Sweetautumn clematis flowers on new growth of the season, so it can be trimmed back as hard as needed to control it each spring. In my experience it blooms better when it has been trimmed back, too.
