| We have a natural spring in the front yard which creates a big mudhole where nothing grows. We are looking for plants that will absorb the water and thrive in these conditions. We'd prefer more "natural" looking plants--nothing too showy or formal. |
| Here are some plants that would appreciate the moister setting: perennials such as marsh marigold, Japanese iris, Siberian iris, Iris pseudacorus, astilbe, Joe Pye weed, hosta; shrubs such as small willows and redosier dogwoods and possibly trees such as river birch and red maple. If the spring is truly an all season water supply, you might be able to open it up slightly and form a small natural pond. This would require consultation with a professional, but might be worth looking into for its decorative value. |
