The Q&A Archives: Plum Bush with Blood Worms

Question: My plum bush/tree as suddenly developed a blood looking worm that is taking the pigment out of the leaves. How do I treat and what is the cause?

Answer: Based on your description I would suspect the tree is suffering from pear slug larvae which can be washed off with a strong spray of water from the garden hose or treated with insecticidal soap. The following web site
shows a photo in Figure 6. If this is not the culprit, you might want to consult with your county extension as to what the pest is and how best to control it.
